Today in the Federal Register the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a request for comments on which current rules and regulations may be appropriate for repeal, replacement or modification.
The notice urges businesses, non-profits, and others to comment on "what rules eliminate jobs, or inhibit job creation, are outdated, impose costs that exceed benefits, are inconsistent or interfere with regulatory reform initiatives and policies."
The notice reads, "Through this notice, EPA is soliciting such input from the public to inform its Task Force's evaluation of existing regulations." It also states that the EPA will be conducting outreach on this same topic.
This Federal Register notice implements Executive Order 13777, "Enforcing the Regulatory Reform Agenda". The Executive Order directs federal agencies to establish a task force to evaluate existing regulations. In March, Administrator Pruitt issued an agency-wide memo announcing members of the task force and directing program officers to seek public comment on existing regulations.
