The Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) is pleased to announce the formation of our first student chapter. The Central Carolina Technical College Student Chapter (Chapter) received approval from the Water Environment Federation (WEF) Board of Trustees on January 27, 2017. The Chapter was recognized at the SC Environmental Conference in March and a plaque was presented to the school for its accomplishment. The Chapter wasted no time in beginning activities. Four students attended the annual conference and held a Chapter Meeting with faculty co-advisors Josh Castleberry and Elizabeth Williams. The students enthusiastically discussed plans for creating a chapter theme, selecting a service project, and generating additional members.
The Central Carolina Technical College Chapter is unique in that the students are part of a distance learning program, working on an Environmental Engineering Technology Associate Degree in the school’s Department of Environmental and Natural Resources. The students are scattered all throughout the state and, typically, are only together in person a few times a year. Therefore, electronic means of communication will be crucial in allowing these students to continue planning activities throughout the year. To aid with this, the WEASC has created a webpage that will allow the students to post upcoming events, information, and pictures. The WEASC will continue supporting the Chapter and offer assistance in planning, training, meetings, events, etc. as needed. Congratulations Central Carolina Technical College Student Chapter!
