YPs & Community Members Team-up to Cleanup!

The 29th Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup Sponsored by the Alice Ferguson Foundation typically occurs every spring. On Saturday, April 22nd (Earth Day), members of VWEA and VA-AWWA Joint Young Professionals Committee and Friends of Accotink Creek hosted a cleanup site along a stream near Thaiss Park located in Fairfax, Virginia.

This year, the YP Committee was also able to partner with George Mason University’s new VWEA student chapter for this event. We had great turnout from both Mason students and YPs (despite the rain on a Saturday morning!). Together, we collected over 20 bags of trash, plastic bottles, and other recyclable items.

Afterwards, we celebrated with a quick bite down the road at Potbelly Sandwich Shop. This event was a great way to engage with the community and do our part to help keep our watershed clean!
